I always like to pretend it's a mole people family that took a wrong turn on their secret track network and ended up in a public place. You can't see the conductor so you can't prove me wrong.

they are out there. I believe Boston's South Station has an entire platform along with a couple lines out. I'm pretty sure New York has a couple.
